Why Worry?

I used to tell Bob not to put on TV programs that had scary images right before we went to bed. He would say, “You watch the news! That’s a lot more frightening than my shows!”

Recently, as we have been flooded with natural disasters of horrific hurricanes and earthquakes, mass-shootings and threats of nuclear war. I finally said, “Turn on The Living Dead. At least we know that’s make-believe!”

People of all ages who are grieving are particularly sensitive to the tumult in the world around them. They are acutely aware how their world changed so quickly and are hyper-vigilant about protecting themselves and their loved ones from danger. This strong reaction can cause those grieving to feel overwhelmed, anxious and often depressed.

We at GIERS are dedicated to educate and support those in our community who are experiencing the roller coaster of the grieving process and to find healthy tools to combat the predictable emotional and physical reactions.

We are in the process of forming a new group to cope with anxiety in the grief experience. We are calling it ” Why Worry?” Contact us if you might be interested in attending this skill-building group and if a day or evening timeframe would be best for you.
